Travellers on the Ballymore site in Brentford have quit and left the area after swift action is taken by the local authorities.
Dozens of travellers who pitched up at a development site in Brentford on Monday 29th have moved on just 24 hours later after enforcement action is taken by Hounslow Council, Ballymore and the police, which saw the travellers move out at 11pm on Tuesday night.
The group, who pinned a legal warning on the gates of the site, claimed the police had no power to remove them and insured they were here to stay.
Clare Saul, Deputy Head of Communications for Hounslow Council, says; “We quickly became aware that local residents felt threatened and in some case were being intimated by the travellers”.
“We worked closely with Ballymore and the police to ensure a strong police presence whilst the travellers were on site. The necessary legalities were put in place to serve them with an eviction order for Wednesday 2nd March, but this morning we were told that the travellers left, late last night”.
Many residents feared they would be facing a long battle after raising concerns regarding the issue, but after the police made their presence known the council ensured they would foresee the matter and help address it.
Councillor Steve Curran, Leader of Hounslow Council, said: “I’m pleased to report that the travellers occupying the site to the South side of Brentford High Street have now left.
“This has come about through Hounslow Council’s Enforcement team working in partnership with Ballymore and Hounslow Police. Ballymore will now be clearing up any mess left behind.
“My thanks go in particular to Chief Inspector John Kennedy and his officers for their help and support in this matter and for monitoring the situation.”
Residents have praised authorities for the instant departure of the travellers as Ballymore prepare to clear up the piles of garbage, before they begin their work to regenerate Brentford High Street.
