Two Polish men were sentenced to 26 weeks in prison after stealing a laptop bag at Heathrow, Terminal 5, the Magistrates decided today.
Mr T. Frytst and Mr. G. Spyr were arrested on 27th of January after stealing a laptop bag, the content of which was estimated to £1700. Both men arrived to Liverpool from Poland on the 22nd of January, where they stayed with friends for two days. After that they arrived in London and attended Heathrow airport on 24th and 25th of January where they were observing the passengers.
At 7 am, on the 27th of January the victim has just arrived to the airport when he left his bag outside Costa where Mr T. Frytst and Mr. G. Spyr stole the blue laptop bag which contained 3 passports, 2 bank cards, one check book, 1 ID, £ 1000 in cash, driving licence, Samsung mobile phone, pair of sun glasses, a pair of reading glasses and a golden watch. Furthermore, 5 transactions were also made from the stolen bank cards.
The defendants were fully intoxicated and displayed drunk behaviour, however they fully cooperated when arrested.
Both of them had similar previous convictions and pleaded guilty for both offences.
The judge decided that the offence should be considered very serious because passengers flying from the airport are considered to be very vulnerable. As a discharge for pleading guilty both Mr Frytsts and Mr Spyr received 26 weeks in prison – consecutive to their current sentences. No compensation was awarded because neither the defendants, nor the victim were in jurisdiction. The defendants can receive licence after serving half of their sentence. The £80 costs charge would be deemed served as both of the defendants are going in prison.
